A 5-week-old Missouri baby was rushed to the hospital with devastating Inj*ries—and police say both of his parents played a role in what happened. Kenai Logun Kelley, 19, is accused of violently shaking his newborn son before intentionally dropping him face-first onto a hardwood floor. According to court records, Kelley allegedly admitted he was angry when he shook the baby by the legs for about a minute. He told investigators he eventually heard a “thump.” When asked about a bruise on the baby’s face, Kelley allegedly said, “I dropped him on his face.” Police say he also admitted using the infant’s own hands to strike the side of his head. Doctors later found severe brain Bl*eding, brain swelling, retinal hemorrhages and multiple broken ribs. But investigators say the situation became even more troubling the next morning. The baby’s mother, Starr Mariah Vesey, 19, allegedly noticed that her son was unusually weak, grunting and having trouble moving one arm. Hours later, she said he went limp. Yet authorities allege she did not call 911 until more than four hours after first noticing serious symptoms. Investigators also found a search on Vesey’s phone asking why her baby had bruises. The child’s Inj*ries were considered life-threatening and required emergency brain surgery. Kelley is charged with child Ab*se or neglect and is being held without bond. Vesey faces a charge of first-degree child endangerment and is being held on $100,000 bond. A newborn cannot explain what hurts or ask someone to save him.
