Alprazolam (Xanax) can rapidly reduce severe anxiety and panic by enhancing GABA activity in the brain. But repeated or prolonged use carries important risks, including tolerance, physical dependence, misuse, addiction, cognitive and psychomotor impairment, and potentially dangerous withdrawal if stopped abruptly.
