@unapologeticallyafter: When you finish your last treatment, everyone wants to celebrate. They tell you how happy they are that you can finally "go back to normal." But nobody talks about the day after. The day the appointments stop, the doctors stop calling, and your friends and family go back to their own busy lives. Suddenly, you are left alone in a body that feels completely different. You have joint pain, hot flashes, brain fog, and fatigue that a good night's sleep won't fix. On top of that, you are terrified that the cancer is going to come back. Instead of feeling happy and free, you feel lonely, anxious, and confused. People want a happy ending, so they expect you to be positive and grateful. Because of that, you start pretending you're fine when you're actually holding back tears. If you are struggling more now than you were when you were in active treatment, please hear me: you are not crazy, and you are not ungrateful. During treatment, your only job was to survive. You didn't have time to feel your feelings. Now that you are safe, your brain is finally trying to process the trauma of what you just went through. The cancer might be gone, but the healing is just starting. Give yourself some grace. #lifeaftercancer #cancersurvivor #healingaftercancer #cancerjourney #womenaftercancer #postcancerjourney #survivorship #postcancerlife #cancerreality

So true. I have plenty of friends say ‘chemo is done’ and yes that’s true but I still have more surgeries to come and on treatment for 10+ more years. Excuse me if I don’t feel as jolly as you think I should be

I was never celebrated even when I finished even though everyone around me wanted to say they were there. I am one year cancer free still alone with my children. The after is worse than the fight itself. I am slowly getting there myself, and you will too.

I'm nearly 6 months out and struggling emotionally and physically. barely back at work and getting back on my feet and just found out I have hernia from my op last year so knowing there's gonna be another long, complex surgery with another brutal recovery is hard. just trying to find some joy in every day.
