Their main goal is to find their missing sibling, but the journey quickly becomes much larger than a simple search. Along the way, the Traveler encounters the rulers of different nations, powerful warriors, gods, ancient civilizations, mysterious organizations, and countless people whose stories are connected to the world's complicated history. The game features a large open world that players can freely explore. They can climb mountains, glide through the air, swim, dive, solve puzzles, discover hidden locations, fight monsters, complete quests, collect resources, and uncover secrets scattered throughout the environment. Each region has a distinct visual identity. For example, Mondstadt is inspired by European medieval and Germanic aesthetics, Liyue draws heavily from traditional Chinese culture, Inazuma is influenced by Japan, Sumeru combines elements inspired by the Middle East and South Asia, Fontaine has a strong French and European aesthetic, Natlan is influenced by various Indigenous and Latin American cultures, and Snezhnaya is associated with Slavic and Russian-inspired imagery. Combat is based on switching between characters and combining their elemental abilities. Players can build a team of four characters, each with their own weapons, abilities, personalities, and combat roles. Elements can interact with one another to create powerful reactions, such as Vaporize, Melt, Electro-Charged, Freeze, and many others. This system makes combat more strategic, as choosing the right combination of characters can dramatically affect how effectively a team performs. One of the most recognizable features of Genshin Impact is its large cast of playable characters. Characters are obtained primarily through a gacha system called Wishes. Each character has their own personal story, relationships, motivations, and connections to the world of Teyvat. Many of them are important not only as playable fighters but also as major figures within the game's narrative. Although Genshin Impact can be played for free, it uses optional in-game purchases and a gacha system. However, players can experience the main story, explore the world, complete quests, and obtain many characters without spending money. At its core, Genshin Impact is a combination of open-world exploration, action combat, character collecting, fantasy storytelling, and worldbuilding.
