@sarahcordiner: Why Blogging, SEO, AEO and AI Search Matter More Than Ever Can I tell you one of the biggest mistakes business owners are making right now? They're still creating content as though it's 2020. They're focused on chasing likes. Chasing followers. Chasing viral posts. Meanwhile, the internet has completely changed. People aren't just Googling anymore. They're asking AI. They're opening ChatGPT. They're opening Gemini. They're opening Claude. And they're asking questions like: "Who's the best business coach in Queensland?" "What's the best CRM for small business?" "Who can help me create an online course?" "How do I grow my membership?" And here's the important part. AI can only recommend what it can find. Which means if there is little or no information about you on the internet... You won't show up. This is where SEO, AEO and GEO come in. SEO is Search Engine Optimisation. AEO is Answer Engine Optimisation. And GEO now often refers to Generative Engine Optimisation, helping AI discover and understand who you are. Different names. Same goal. Being found. Because every blog post you publish... Every video you create... Every question you answer... Every piece of educational content you put online... Is teaching search engines and AI systems exactly who you are and what you do. That's why I keep saying: Blogging matters. Educational content matters. How-to content matters. For years I've listened to people say: "Nobody reads blogs." "How-to content is dead." "It doesn't go viral." Meanwhile, I've continued creating educational content because I understand something many people don't. Search rewards answers. Always has. The job of Google is to match a question with the best answer. The job of AI is exactly the same. Which means every question your audience is asking is an opportunity for you to become the answer. That's why one of my favourite AI prompts is: "Please list the 100 most common questions my target audience asks." Then I create content answering every single one. A blog. A video. A social media post. An email. One question can become multiple pieces of content. And every piece increases your discoverability. What's even more exciting is that social media content is becoming increasingly searchable too. Platforms are moving towards AI-powered search experiences where old content can continue being discovered long after it was originally published. That means the content you create today can continue bringing you leads, customers and opportunities for years. Think about that. A piece of content you create once could still be helping people find you months or years from now. That's powerful. Which is why I no longer see content as marketing. I see it as a business asset. A digital employee. A lead generation system. A referral source. A searchable knowledge base that works for me 24 hours a day. So if you're wondering where to focus your marketing efforts right now, my answer is simple: Answer questions. Write blogs. Create videos. Share what you know. Teach what you do. And make sure the internet understands exactly who you help and how you help them. Because the businesses that help AI understand them will be the businesses AI recommends. And that's where the future of marketing is heading.
