@profahmedhankir: Akathisia: The Side Effect That Can Feel Unbearable Imagine feeling physically unable to sit still — like you want to crawl out of your own skin. That’s akathisia. Akathisia isn’t simply “restlessness.” It’s an intensely distressing inner urge to move that can occur with medications, particularly antipsychotics, and can become profoundly disabling. Crucially, it can sometimes be mistaken for anxiety or agitation — which is why recognising it matters. #akathisia #antipsychotics #MentalHealth
When I had this in antipsychotics on the psych ward it felt like there were bugs under my skin unless I was running full speed. They didn’t help. When I wouldn’t stop they just locked me in a room.

I’ve never heard of this and I have thought it was restless legs and agitation which just doesn’t give up. We need more people like you with lived experience as others really do dismiss or write you up as being deliberate. Do you mean Propanolol makes this worse? My dose was chaged and I have struggled so bad but didn’t know about any of this. Thank you, your content is so helpful

I have this one and especially after I took and stoped olanzapine. A psychiatrist in an island in Greece gave me the very wrong diagnostic instead of anxiety and insomnia and gave this horrible olanzapine. Another psychiatrist in Romania gave me another medication similar to this one because I showed the paper from there and I stoped after 20 days and gave me cypralex with trittico and ciptalex does the same (reckless legs syndrome) and I stoped after 20 days also that one and I’m only on trittico that I will also stop and I take melatonin 10 mg and gaba and magnesium with trittico. The medications didn’t heal (especially olanzapine doesn’t heal, just is a sedation that masks the symptoms and blocks the dopamine that leaves you without motivation and still I had more worry because I felt I don’t live). Now I’m always moving my body (I have also rythmic movement disorder since I was 6 months old as a baby and now I’m almost 40 years old). I continuously move even now my leg when I stay at the table and even if I’m with my mother and close friends I move continuously and worst after those medications. How this can be stoped without taking medication that gives worse symptoms after are stoped? Olanzapine did this to me (I took it for 9-10 months). I don’t understand why they create medications with side effects and doesn’t creat something that really heals people. Just to keep us there like addicted and to never let us heal?! I think of shorting out my life (medications changed my mind a lot and from those medications I don’t have anymore pleasure of life and thinking in advance about getting old my dear ones and me and life ending and this perturbs me mentally a lot and the worry of being alone). Now I take also during the day natural medication from Romania “Calmogen” because before was helping me with worry and anxiety when I had big fear to travel. I stoped and I was sensitive to noises from outside and I started have severe insomnia in one year that made me go to the wrong psychiatrist in Greece. I was living in a place in my village where people intentionally were outing high music that perturbed me and destroyed my sleeping circle.

I experienced akathisia this winter. A psychiatrist read over my entire medical history and thankfully diagnosed it. I wanted to die and was so distraught. It was awful. I’m so grateful for my doctors help and I’m happy to say I’m feeling better.

It is terrible and caused by antipsychotics like haloperidol. When I told the psychiatrist who gave me the first antipsychotic in injection form she told me that i was easily influenced. She blamed me when my disorders were trauma and stress and zero psychiatric symptoms and should NOT have been given ANY psychiatric drugs. Every nerve resonating against the one beside it.

What happens to you while being at work and on an bipolar episode at the same time? Does this make your decision and diagnosis less accurate? And does it effect your work at all?
