Psalm 47 :
Honestly, it’s sad that the majority are supporting Humble Soul and portraying Shantel as the bad one. I don’t think it’s fair for Humble Soul to prevent her from seeing her daughter.
People should consider the fact that Shantel was only 14 years old when she gave birth. Humble Soul was much older than her, and she was still a child herself. She was too young to be expected to balance her education with raising a child. Even as a mature woman, it isn’t easy to combine school and raising a child.
Men often leave their children with the mother. Sometimes they don’t even provide any support, while the woman struggles and raises the children alone. Later, when the man is in a better position, he can come back and start supporting the child. So why shouldn’t Shantel also be given that opportunity?
I’m not saying she is demanding full custody. I believe Humble Soul should allow her to take responsibility and have a role in her daughter’s life. Even if it’s only weekend visits, she should be given the opportunity to be a mother and continue from where Humble Soul took over.
Let’s also remember that Shantel didn’t abandon her daughter immediately after giving birth. She took care of her for about six months before going back to school. What were people expecting her to do? Stop her education completely and raise the child, or somehow manage both at just 14 years old?
If there is anyone who should have taken more responsibility at that time, I would say it was Shantel’s mother. She could have helped take care of the child or continued visiting and supporting Humble Soul while Shantel completed her education.
I believe Shantel deserves to have her daughter in her life, even if it isn’t full-time. She should at least be allowed regular visits and the opportunity to build a relationship with her daughter. Whether that means weekends, school holidays, or another arrangement, the important thing is that the child gets to have a relationship with both parents.
