I've listened to several different coverages of Unit 731, I'm happy to add yours to the listening list. that whole story is... sickening, to say the least. but it needs to be told. hope you had the chance to decompress/relax after researching and recording this one ❤️

There’s a book called ‘Doctors from Hell’ that talks about the human experiments from the survivors pov. The author was a court reporter during the Nuremberg trials

Learning about Unit 731 was the first and -thankfully- only time a book made me literally vomit. I couldn't believe anyone would be that evil. I believe it now, of course. The sheer amount of documentation would make denial foolish as well as incredibly unkind.

the reason so little of us know about this is because. we are taught mainly European history because we are European. In ww2 we would only be taught aspects of the Japanese conflict we were a part of. like pearl harbour. the bombs etc and a brief overview of the 2nd sink Japanese conflict. hence we know all about Joseph mengele. but so little of unit 731. I have Anthony beevors the second world war and only a paragraph is dedicated to unit 731. I think that goes for the majority of western historians. you'd need to find a specialist book on it. even then I bet there are hundred dedicated to the nazi experiments but hardly any to unit 731. I think because of euro centerism I think

Seems it been a thing for a while, the British did the same to their own people throughout the 1800s and the US was known for doing the same much more recently too.

We briefly touched on this in my psych degree, harrowing stuff. Needed a lot of self care after many psychology topics. I understand (& find it interesting), but the way we treated people & animals to get results & experiment was horrific & this is an understatement

the only justice after America gave them full immunity was by the Soviet Union at the Khabarovsk trials) . plus it wasnt just chemical and germ warfare at 731 . ballistic damage. blowing people up tied in chairs . to see the damage at different ranges . frost bite . freezing limbs solid to see the effects on tissue. flame damage. flame throwers at different ranges to see the results. Pressure testing. how much pressure different people could taken in a sealed room before eyes popped out and things started popping . most of 731 was biological but on many different Chinese villages with a different virus in each to calculate death rates and exposure transfer . the fact zero prisoners ever left the epidemic prevention and water purification department of the Kwangtung Army district (731) on the outskirts of Harbin . manchuria China kept it a secret for years
