@kzitsimt: Lena and Miu had been best friends for as long as either of them could remember. Their mothers used to joke that they came as a package deal. If Lena was invited, Miu was coming. If Miu was going somewhere, Lena was already asking what time they were leaving. They had pictures together from when they were barely old enough to walk. Matching birthday outfits. School plays. Family vacations. Graduation photos. Random blurry pictures taken on old phones that neither of them had the heart to delete. They grew up together. And somewhere along the way, without either of them saying it out loud, they fell in love. The problem was that neither of them knew what to do about it. Because being best friends was easy. Being in love with your best friend was not. Miu had known for years. She couldn't even pinpoint exactly when it happened. Maybe it was when Lena started waiting outside her apartment after work just because she knew Miu hated walking home alone. Maybe it was the first time Lena remembered her coffee order without asking. Maybe it was the way Lena always looked for her in a crowded room. Or maybe it had been there all along, quietly growing while they were too busy growing up to notice. Lena, on the other hand, was convinced she had a very good reason for keeping her feelings to herself. She was terrified. Not of rejection. She was terrified of losing Miu. Because what if she told her and everything changed? What if Miu started looking at her differently? What if the comfortable, familiar thing they'd had since childhood suddenly became something awkward? So Lena did what she had always done. She stayed. She loved Miu quietly. And Miu did exactly the same. It was almost funny how obvious they were to everyone except each other. Their friends had stopped asking if they were together years ago. Now they simply assumed they were. One Friday night, they were getting ready for a mutual friend's birthday dinner. Miu stood in front of Lena's closet, holding up one outfit after another. “This one?” “No.” “This?” “No.” “This?” Lena looked up from her phone. “You've asked me that four times.” “Because you keep saying no.” “Because you keep picking the same dress in different colors.” Miu put the clothes down. “Okay, fashion expert. You choose.” Lena stood up. She looked through the closet for a moment before pulling out a simple black dress. “This.” Miu stared at it. “You've never let me wear that before.” “You've never asked.” “Fair.” Miu took the dress. “Turn around.” Lena raised an eyebrow. “Why?” “Because I'm changing.” “You've changed in front of me a hundred times.” “Lena.” “Fine.” Lena turned around. She could hear Miu moving behind her. She tried not to think about it. Tried not to think about how strange it was that they had grown up together, shared hotel rooms on family trips, borrowed each other's clothes, fallen asleep on the same couch countless times—and yet suddenly, something as simple as waiting for Miu to change felt different. “Okay.” Lena turned around. And forgot what she was about to say. Miu stood in front of the mirror, fixing one of her earrings. The dress fit her perfectly. Lena stared for a second too long. Miu noticed. “What?” “Nothing.” “You're staring.” “I wasn't.” “You were.” Lena looked away. “You look nice.” Miu smiled at the mirror. “Just nice?” Lena swallowed. “Really nice.” Miu turned toward her. There was a small pause. “Thanks.” Lena nodded. “Ready?” “Almost.” Miu stepped closer. “Can you fix this?” She pointed to the back of the dress. Lena froze. “Sure.” She carefully fixed the clasp. Her fingers brushed Miu's skin for barely a second. Neither of them moved. Miu looked at her through the mirror. Lena met her eyes. For a moment, the room became strangely quiet. It wasn't new. That feeling. The awareness. The little shift in the air whenever they got too close. They had both been pretending not to notice it for years. Miu broke eye contact first. “Thanks.” “Yeah.” (com sec.) #lenamiu #lena #miu #fyp #wlw

con. They went to the dinner. They laughed. They ate too much. They made fun of their friends. They took pictures. At some point, Miu leaned her head against Lena's shoulder while everyone was talking. Lena didn't move. She never did. Miu had always been allowed to be close. The problem was that Lena wanted more. Much more. Later that night, they ended up sitting outside the restaurant while waiting for their ride. Miu looked up at the sky. “Do you ever think about how long we've known each other?” Lena smiled. “Unfortunately.” “Hey.” “I'm kidding.” Miu nudged her shoulder. “I mean it.” “I know.” “We've literally been together since diapers.” “That explains why you have no choice but to tolerate me.” “Exactly.” Miu laughed. Then she became quiet. “Would you ever date someone you've been friends with for years?” Lena's heart skipped. She kept her expression neutral. “Why?” “Just asking.” “Maybe.” “Maybe?” “Depends.” “On what?” Lena looked at her. “Whether they feel the same.” Miu's smile faded slightly. “Right.” A silence settled between them. Miu looked down at her hands. “Would you?” Lena knew exactly what she was asking. She could have said it. She could have finally admitted everything. Instead, she smiled. “If the person was worth risking the friendship for.” Miu looked at her. “What if they weren't?” “Then I'd rather keep them.” Miu nodded. “Yeah.” Neither of them said anything else. Their ride arrived a few minutes later. They went home. And they both spent the entire night thinking about the same conversation. A few weeks passed. Nothing changed. At least, not officially. They still had breakfast together whenever their schedules matched. They still sent each other random pictures throughout the day. Miu still stole Lena's hoodies. Lena still complained about it and then bought her another one. They still knew when the other was having a bad day without needing to ask. But there was something underneath all of it now. Something neither of them could ignore. One evening, Miu showed up at Lena's apartment without warning. Lena opened the door. “What happened?” “Nothing.”
