to everyone living in your cars: if you can afford a gym membership or get a free promo, that's access to a good shower, a cool/ warm place to be for a few hours, and sometimes a massage chair. a small capsule closet in a duffle bagel is inexpensive to wash at a laundromat every so often. and doordash isn't the best company in the world, but its immediate money deposited in your account when you sign off. can help if you need a little something for food, or gas, or just to get ypu through. Typing in my van in a parking lot at 2am. I make more money than I’ve ever made but can’t afford even a little studio apartment. Sober completely normal young man just can’t come up with an extra $1300+ every month. I’m in like the prime of my life looking the best I ever have people never know I’m actually homeless and struggling. I notice people who live in their cars constantly. Like 10 right next to me rn. Lots of elderly people living in cars and minivans. Got my girl passed out in the back she must really love me because she never makes me feel like I should be able to afford more.

not so fun fact: statistically speaking around 40 to 60% of homeless people actually have jobs. of those 40-60 around 20% of those people are students. we live in a country that does not care about the people. and until we start voting different they never will.

well Michigan is awful. I've grown up in the same area and used to be able to get 3 bedroom apartment for $1100. Now that same area has 2 and 3 bedroom apartments listed for up to $2500 monthly. houses can be double. plus you have utilities food etc. it's absolutely heartbreaking how many people are homeless

Homelessness is a real issue and it could happen to anyone at any moment. A job loss, increase in rent, unable to afford the mortgage....name there are tons of reasons. I pray you get back on your feet soon.

A Walmart close to my house allows people to sleep in their cars in a certain area of the parking lot, easily 10-20 cars parked there in the mornings. It’s a sad reality

My conspiracy theory is that everything stopped being 24 hours during Covid specifically Walmart because before that the whole communities of people living in the parking lot and you’d be able to go inside in the middle of the night just to walk around use a clean bathroom wash your face in the sink get warm

Someone should make an indoor car lot for people who live in their car. Have showers, kitchen and a general area with chargers. Small fee for day, week or month stay.

When I was barely 16, I was kicked out with no where to go. I didn’t have a car but I had a job working part time in fast food. I saved my first two paychecks to buy a car that barely ran, but at least I wasn’t staying on a bench at truck stop. I was paying for showers at the truck stop, sleeping in my ‘84 chevy chevette. And traveling no more than 5 miles a day, I was able to this for about 3 yrs. Never legally registered the car. I didn’t even have a drivers license. I had no where to turn. No insurance, no bank account. I was kicked out for quitting high school because I wasn’t going to graduate with my class after busting ass and skipping several grades. My parents were narcissistic assholes. My father killed himself on my 21st birthday, my grandfather and grandmother died just before my dad. I lost three people in 3 months and then another grandfather a month later. I was shunned by my entire family. No one is coming to save you or me except Jesus Christ. I wasn’t at their funerals, wasn’t invited. I’m now 48, married with three amazing kids and I don’t own a home but we rent in a nice neighborhood. Don’t let this phase in your life define YOU. You may not see the light at the end of the tunnel but there is one. I’m praying that you will overcome your hardships.
