@profahmedhankir: How Do I Know He Loves Me, Dad? I’m a psychiatrist — but I’m also a father. And if my daughter ever asks me, “Dad, how do I know if he really loves me?” this is what I’ll tell her — and every young woman listening. In medicine, we say prevention is better than cure. The same principle can apply to the heart. We can’t prevent every heartbreak, but we can teach our daughters what healthy love looks like: consideration, respect, emotional safety, accountability, consistency and loyalty. Don’t just listen to “I love you.” Watch the pattern. #trauma #anxiety #depression #MentalHealth #relationships

I think we need to separate two things: love, character, and actually being a good partner are not the same thing. Someone can love you deeply and still not be capable of building a healthy life with you. And someone can be a genuinely good person without being the right person for you.
Whether you feel loved and emotionally connected is something young people have to figure out for themselves. But we can teach our children to look at the foundation: Do I feel safe with him? Does he listen and take me seriously? Is he reliable? Can he regulate himself, accept a “no,” take responsibility, and apologize when he is wrong? How does he treat people in vulnerable positions, especially when he has nothing to gain? What does he do when he sees someone being treated unfairly?
Of course, a 20-year-old won’t have the maturity of a 40-year-old. The question isn’t whether he is already a perfectly mature man, but whether the foundation is there and he is willing to grow.

I wish I had a parent who taught me this after two relationships with narcissistic men that pretty much ruined relationships for me. The emotional games toxic men can play is so damaging. Consistency is the biggest lesson I’ve learnt.

As a social scientist, I have been preoccupied for years with human behavior and its patterns. Yet, as you know, love is a multifactorial phenomenon. I believe that character and integrity are fundamental components that must be cultivated above all, so that words and actions align, and emotional responsibility and consistency are prioritized. Life is dynamic, with everything that this entails.

Please focus on raising boys to be better humans. The issue is the baseline toxic masculinity and the red pill movement. This is a male problem.

Yes the two best men I ever met have been amazing. One died and he still came back to tell me he would bring me a new man who would love me (I’m a psychic medium). Very consistent both of them
