@sierraloadedtv: When the APC genuinely lost the 2023 general elections, they blamed the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone for allegedly rigging the elections results in favor of the ruling SLPP. Against the advice of their own lawyers, the party refused to challenge the outcome of the 2023 elections in court. Instead, they engaged in a media campaign against the ECSL and the Judiciary of Sierra Leone. Some of their leaders made it crystal clear that they had no confidence in the Judiciary. They boycotted Parliament and refused to take part in any government activity. Last week, the party’s elected MPs walked out of Parliament when a vote on certain clauses in the Constitution Amendment Bill was underway. On 10th August, 2026 Parliament passed the Constitution Amendment Bill with a simple majority, as required by law. The Speaker ruled that the Bill did not require a two-thirds majority support from elected MPs to amend the Constitution. The APC, at a press conference last week, announced that they would seek a Supreme Court interpretation of the Speaker’s ruling. They have the right to do so! What happens if the Supreme Court rules against the party that had said openly in 2023 that they had no confidence in the Judiciary?
