🐄 🛖 Asma’u Abubakar Usman Challenged the Stereotypes in “THE NAME THEY FEAR” The Knockout Stage of the MPS Media Poetry Challenge 2026 – Arewa Edition, North-East Zonal Stage in Bauchi, continued with an insightful and thought-provoking performance from Team D under Coach Harajnah Umar Ragada. From Team D, 17-year-old Asma’u Abubakar Usman from Plateau State, performing under the stage name Asmeey Bukar, presented her poem titled “THE NAME THEY FEAR.” 🎙️📖 Through her poetry, Asma’u reflected on her identity as a Fulani girl raised in a Fulani family and explored the realities of cultural perception and identity. She addressed how, sometimes, simply hearing the word “Fulani” can lead people to associate the entire community with words such as “bandit,” “terrorist,” or “kidnapper.” 💔🌍 Her message was clear: she was not born with a gun; she was born with faith, dignity, respect, and dreams. She used the realities of Fulani pastoral and rural life to remind the audience that behind a cultural identity are ordinary human beings — a mother, a father, a child chasing dreams, a student holding a book, and a poet holding the truth. 🐄🌾🏕️📚❤️ Asmeey Bukar celebrated the richness of Fulani cultural heritage and the traditional lifestyle that has shaped generations.
