Maybe we need to find our way back to the front porch. 🇺🇸❤️Back to when neighbors knew each other’s names, when a broken fence brought people together, when there was always an extra chair at the table, and when helping someone didn't depend on whether you agreed with them. Somewhere along the way, we started arguing through glowing devices while scrolling past each other's pain. We know what's happening in other states, other countries, and all over the internet, but sometimes we don't even know that the person down the road is struggling. We spend hours arguing about people we'll never meet while someone right in front of us might just need somebody to knock on their door and say, “Are you okay?”
And maybe that's what we've forgotten about America. It was never supposed to be a country where everyone looked the same, believed the same things, loved the same people, or came from the same place. We're white, Black, brown, immigrants, citizens, red, blue, gay, straight, Muslim, Christian, and so many other beautiful backgrounds and identities. We don't have to erase our differences to stand together. Those differences are part of what makes this country what it is.
There will always be problems beyond our borders, and caring about them matters—but we can't forget the people standing right in front of us. We need neighbors again. We need people who check on people, families who help families, and communities that don't let someone fall through the cracks. We need to stop letting money, power, screens, and division convince us that we're enemies.
Red or blue, rich or poor, immigrant or citizen, Christian or Muslim, gay or straight, Black, white, brown—we are still human beings trying to make it through this life. And maybe the village isn't gone. Maybe we've just forgotten that WE are the village. Maybe America isn't about becoming one identical people. Maybe it's about millions of different people choosing to care for one another anyway. 🇺🇸❤️Maybe it's time we remembered.
