@manbehindmindshift360: WHY DOES YOUR TEENAGER GOING OUT WITH FRIENDS SUDDENLY BECOME A BIG PROBLEM? 🤔 Trust shouldn’t suddenly begin when your child turns 16. It should have been built gradually. When they were younger, you could have allowed age-appropriate opportunities to socialise. A friend’s birthday. Going to the cinema. Visiting trusted friends. School activities. Small outings with clear boundaries. Then talk afterwards. “Did you enjoy yourself?” “Who was there?” “Did anything make you uncomfortable?” “Did you stick to what we agreed?” Each experience gives your child an opportunity to demonstrate responsibility and gives you an opportunity to build trust. But if you’ve controlled everything for years, then suddenly your teenager wants independence, both of you may struggle. They haven’t practised freedom. And you haven’t practised trusting them. Of course, parents should know where teenagers are going, who they’re with, how they’re getting home and have sensible boundaries. But the goal shouldn’t be to prevent your child from having a social life.
