@reformedacres: We caught our family milk cow’s mastitis early, and that really does make all the difference! 🐄 As soon as we noticed those first signs, we got to work hand stripping extra milk after machine milking, massaging the affected quarters, testing at every milking, and keeping her milk separate from our other cow’s. After about a week of this, she was testing clear. Just another very real part of keeping a family milk cow 💛 . . #milkcow #dairycows #dairygoats #farmlife #homestead
Highly recommend keeping a CMT paddle on hand! It’s a super convenient tool to help monitor for mastitis!

Peppermint cream!! I work a commercial dairy farm and the first sign of mild mastitis we throw mint cream on the bad quarters and it usually goes away after 1-2 milkings

so question bc I’m super curious. I don’t know anything about cows. how does your style of milking differ from your husbands? how does she prefer him? how can she tell the difference? I appreciate any kind of answers, I’m super curious now!

highly recommend udder mint/udder joy/dynamint. they are udder rubs to help with swelling. we use it immediately at calving to help with that edema. smells great too.

So glad to see you using gloves! Staph A can be so easily transmitted from our hands. Also I’d recommend a CMT kit, it’s really cheap and it’s a lot more accurate than the cards. I hope she clears up without a hitch!

She's probably more kicky because she is in a bit of pain, not because of who is milking her.
