If your baby always curls forward, keeps their chin tucked down, or has deep red creases in their neck, their body may be holding tension through the front of the chest and neck. Many tense babies live in a “flexed” position. Over time, this can limit tongue movement, affect feeding, and keep their nervous system in a more stressed state. The guppy position is a gentle way to open the front of the body and give baby a different sensory experience. Benefits of this position: • Gently stretches tight neck and chest muscles • Encourages the tongue to lift into a more optimal resting position • Supports easier breathing and feeding • Helps baby move out of a curled, tense posture • Promotes relaxation through the nervous system I often recommend using this position before feeds or during calm connection time to help release tension and improve oral and body function. Remember — when the tongue and neck can move freely, the whole body works more efficiently. Save this to try later and send to a parent who has a tight or tense baby. Follow @storybook_physiotherapy to learn how your baby’s body and development are connected.#babyplay #grossmotor #baby #infant #paedspt
