This farming scenario is too simplified and I doubt if it is practically possible more especially in rural areas. Farming is not simple as everyone thinks.

You have not included the cost associated with running a farm. Limitations to access to land. Cost off feed and high risk of owning animals like theft and diseases outbreaks. Skills that required to take care of a farm and access to reliable market. And no one will fund a start up agriculture enterprise like they will do with a car or a house.

I'm from engcobo(eastern cape) eeish bhuti,where I'm from those 170 cattle could all gone (theft) in 7 years time,but I get your point though (vehicles value depreciate over time,and cattle do the opposite)

Brother, I hear you and I understand your business model. Sorry, but I can’t put R1 million into the bush by buying 170 cows. That’s not for me. I would rather use the money to try another business where I feel more comfortable.😏

the question is... Did the rural brother buy the car cash.? if its on installment then meaning if you were to buy the 170 beef cows you would need to spend the 17000 per month to buy a cow and have some cash for the person taking care of them, cash for transporting the cow and cash for supplements and injections incase... so this motivation is invalid

You forgot to include land as a necessity, unless those cows will stay in a garage or carport. Sometime we just ridicule other people's choices without giving proper analysis. Even if you speak of those born in rural areas, thina singabaku Qumbu 5180, I hope you got it.
