another question to be raised is why this kind of service of selling papers exists... maybe because in the academic world now instead of research quality you are measure by quantity publish crushing all the researchers ? before someone saying something I am not defending the paper mill companies..

The root problem is making publication count a performance metric. Once academics are rewarded for pumping out papers rather than producing meaningful knowledge, shortcuts become inevitable, whether outright fabrication or low-quality research with little real-world value.

This is a very flawed argument and it's from a misunderstanding from your part. AI is looking at the way the papers are written but it is mostly just flagging papers as it has a similar writing style which is normal as most papers tend to follow similar writing styles.

Did they give it any false positive, like real papers with the same format. Don't universities ingrain syllabus' and formatting? And also a couple thousand papers aren't enough when it's spewing results in millions. And we know other ai checking models fail in and give wrong determinations
