Felix argues that government communicators have been misleading Ghanaians about the scale of the losses and says the public should pay attention to the figures published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) rather than political spin. The IMF’s 2026 reporting on Ghana states that the expansion of the domestic gold-purchase programme in 2025 resulted in losses of more than US$1.7 billion, about 1.5% of GDP. GoldBod and Sammy Gyamfi have pushed back against how those figures are being interpreted, arguing that the wider economic gains of the programme should also be considered. Felix, however, insists that the central issue is accountability: How much money was lost, who bears responsibility, and why should Ghanaians accept assurances that appear to conflict with figures contained in IMF documentation?
