Here’s the gateway - ILLEGAL marijuana. If you had to go to a guy’s house to buy weed, it was also more likely that guy sold other drugs. That was the gateway - it’s illegality. But they don’t sell pills or blow at a dispensary, so the gateway doesn’t exist when it’s legal.

i always say it can be, if you let it. it definitely can be a gateway into other things if you already struggle with substance abuse and mental health issues like this guy said. however, i've been on both sides of this idea and i will say. it is really up to you, as the individual, whether or not it's going to be or not.

I think that addicts have there own “gateway drug” something they start with, that then no longer scratches the itch & then they progress onto something stronger or add into their current addiction. But not necessarily that a particular drug is going to make you try another or means that you will be then an addict. Addiction is just so much more complex

Cannabis clearly isn’t a gateway drug. Pretty much everyone knows plenty of people that smoke it that wouldn’t go anyway near serious drugs. It’s simply that people that would be willing to do the serious drugs would also do everything else. And the vast majority of people selling it, wouldn’t go anywhere near the serious drugs either, it doesn’t make sense financially.

Anecdote here: I started smoking weed at 13 due to the pain caused by my health conditions: I have never gone on to do harder drugs, graduated high school at 16 and have never been arrested. Maybe the issue isnt them “starting with weed” and more likely the environment they were born into or pushed into through circumstances. We know that poverty statistically has a high correlation with drug/alcohol use.

i mean, it's a gateway drug as in you need to interact with a dealer or an online market.. which opens up the possibility of harder drugs. if its legalized you dont need to deal with someone who's criminal in that way

alcohol is an actual gateway drug, because it makes people do things they would not do sober, like try drugs. Cannabis does not have this kind of effect on people. Calling it a gateway drug is old American propaganda from the 1930s to make cannabis seem more dangerous than it actually is.

been smoking weed and drinking, I hate vaping, I'll never do coke, I barely do edibles, and any other drug doesn't interest me. some people are just weak and do not have self control. they can't say no and fall easily into a pattern of this "gateway" drug. to be clear, I'm not shaming anyone or mean anything bad by saying someone is weak. if my wording comes off bad I'm sorry English is not my first language I'm doing my best.

This is absolute rubbish, go to any high school and you will see that the kids start with pot and move on to other things and using heroin as an example is foolish that’s extreme but two kids that start with smoking pot end up trying other things like cocaine and LSD and MDA? Yes they do and no the majority don’t end up trying heroin.
