Inside a higher timeframe range, the lower timeframes can create higher highs (HH), higher lows (HL), and breaks of structure (BOS), making it look like the market is trending. However, when you look at the higher timeframe, the market is still inside a consolidation period. The lower timeframe movements are happening within the boundaries of the larger range. This is why it is important to understand multiple timeframes. The lower timeframe shows the internal movement and can help with entries, but the higher timeframe shows the overall market condition. A lower timeframe trend inside a higher timeframe consolidation does not always mean a true trend has started. Price can continue moving inside the range until it breaks the higher timeframe structure.
