I worked front of house in restaurants for most of my life, while foraging as a hobby. 🌱🌷 About six years ago we had a break in and the police came to take our fingerprints, so they could differentiate them from the criminals when checking the place. 👮 “Are you a gardener?” said the woman who took my prints. “Sort of”, I replied, confused. “Never become a criminal” she advised me, “these are some incredibly unique fingerprints”. 😬 She showed me my incredibly lined, and craggy prints 😅 Apparently when you work with the land, your hands give you away! 🌳 Fellow foragers / gardeners, please tell me you also have hands that look around 20 years older than your face? 🤷‍♀️ As well as preventing me from being a criminal (damn) my hands get so dry, in the winter they crack and become really sore! ❄️ This whipped dandelion hand balm is my GO TO for nourishing them! 💚 Recipe: ~ only harvest small amounts of dandelions from areas of great abundance! 🙏 ~ Dry around 20 dandelion heads 🌼 (this is a trick in and of itself. Don’t hang them up to dry; they’ll turn into clocks. You want to lay them face down on a baking tray and leave them somewhere warm and dry.) 🫙 Add to a jar and cover with a neutral oil (I used apricot kernel oil, but you could use jojoba or even mild olive oil). Leave to steep for around 4 weeks in a dark place. Strain out your dandelions and put the oil in a little jar with some room on top. 🐝 Now, melt in some shea butter and beeswax. You can be pretty rough with measurements. I used 1 cup infused dandelion oil, ¼ cup shea butter and ¼ cup olive wax (you could also use beeswax) I like to ‘whip’ my balm so it has a nice, spreadable texture. You can do this by just mixing it up with a clean spoon, or a mini whisk! Save this one for later and share with a dry-handed friend! 🥰 #dandelion #handbalm #naturalremedy
