@f16lovers3: Eclipse chaser | Aircraft: Concorde prototype 001 (F-WTSS). Date: 30 June 1973. It flew during a total solar eclipse over Africa. The aircraft was used to chase the Moon’s shadow so scientists could observe the eclipse for much longer than people on the ground. At around 58,000 ft (17,700 m) and approximately Mach 2, Concorde could stay ahead of the Moon's shadow. The observation lasted about 74 minutes, dramatically longer than the few minutes of totality experienced from the ground. Scientists aboard the aircraft studied the solar corona using instruments installed on the prototype. This was particularly useful because Concorde could fly above much of the atmosphere, giving researchers a clearer opportunity to observe the Sun's corona. | #concorde #edit #aviation #fyp #solareclipse
