Instead of alerting the bank, he allegedly spent part of the money before authorities stepped in. Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission later recovered some of the funds, but he was still left owing roughly £220,000. After saying he did not have enough money to repay the remaining balance, the man reportedly opted to serve a one year prison sentence instead of arranging a repayment plan.
