One of these drivers, Luares the Ian, was on duty on the shuttle bus connecting Naha Airport and Chatan on the 23rd. Ian and the other four drivers obtained their Class 2 heavy vehicle licenses in Fukushima Prefecture and then came to Okinawa in October 2025 for training. All of them have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) at the intermediate level (N3 level) or higher and are fluent in English. Luares the Ian: Riding with passengers was very nerve-wracking. I think I'll get used to it if I do it every day. I'll try to drive safely, avoiding sudden turns and sudden braking. By actively hiring foreigners, Tokyo Bus hopes to alleviate the serious labor shortage facing the entire industry.
