@melrobbins: If one text can send you into a spiral trying to figure out whether someone’s mad at you, you need to understand this symptom of ADHD: Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria. In this episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, Dr. Hamdani, a board-certified psychiatrist and leading expert on ADHD, explains one of the least talked about, but most impactful, symptoms of ADHD. Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria is an intense emotional response to real or perceived rejection, criticism, or disappointment. And for many people with ADHD, it can make a simple text message feel devastating. As Dr. Hamdani explains, the emotional part of the ADHD brain can react before the logical part has a chance to catch up. That's why something that seems small to everyone else can completely consume your day. If you've ever felt this way, you're not dramatic. You're not weak. And you're definitely not alone. This episode is exactly what you need. Stay tuned - this episode drops Thursday August 20th! 🎧 “The ADHD Doctor: How to Focus, Stop Procrastinating, Manage Your Emotions, & Feel in Control”

The exclamation point after the “no worries” wouldn’t trigger me. It’s the “no worries” w/o the exclamation point that makes me spiral.

I’ve never heard this feeling described so well by someone else. This is exactly what I feel on a day to day basis. Everything is a threat that needs to be monitored and dissected.

I think it’s important to remember that this is not a permanent thing. Therapy and coping skills work. It’s not like people with ADHD are born with RSD, it’s a result of being mistreated, undervalued and constant negative feedback from people who don’t understand ADHD. It’s a software issue, not a hardware issue.

This was me for YEARS. One short text or a change in someone’s tone and I could spend hours wondering what I did wrong. Learning not to automatically assume everything is about me has been huge.💜

but this is not ADHD specific as most of currently described symptoms. This exact one shows up same for people with childhood trauma based on danger felt in home (for example emotional danger from one of these parents, because they were emotionally immature or DDA etc.) or with severely overstimulated nervous system as in chronic illness or pain, when the level of the condition causes identity crisis or depressive states

I’ve never felt so understood or identified until I saw this. I haven’t even been on TikTok much for months and I am going through something that seeing this is like “yes! This! So identified.”
