@melrobbins: “ADHD is not a superpower.” In this episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, Dr. Hamdani, a board-certified psychiatrist and leading expert on ADHD, shares one of the most honest perspectives I've ever heard about ADHD. Dr. Hamdani explains, the most helpful way to think about ADHD is realistically. There are things that make life easier. There are things that make life harder. And understanding both is what allows you to find the support, tools, and strategies that actually help. You don't need to romanticize or fear ADHD. You just need to understand it. Stay tuned - this episode drops Thursday August 20th! 🎧 “The ADHD Doctor: How to Focus, Stop Procrastinating, Manage Your Emotions, & Feel in Control”

Maybe she’s not ADHD…I feel like my ADHD is like a superpower, you just have to learn to lean into it, honestly it, and control it.

Thank you!!! I hate it when people call it a superpower like it’s something fun. It’s extremely exhausting most of the time.

Romanticizing ADHD as a "superpower" ignores the daily friction. Understanding how your brain actually works and building real systems around it is where the real power lies. 🧠⚙️🎯

ADHD can be a power if you consider being dumb a super power, not dumb as in the traditional sense, but dumb as in not having the ability to do anything that requires constant focus.

It's a disability, it is disabling and I can't understand for the life of me why anyone would say otherwise. Individuals who are diagnosed with it do not have to identify as disabled, that's one thing. But one thing I've noticed is that most of the people who call it that are the moms who make their child's disability their entire personality. I couldn't agree more that that's how we should address it.

I’m think that people who think it is a super power don’t have true ADHD. It’s dreadful. It’s hard to deal with and it makes it very hard to function.

ADHD has brought me the ability to mask emotions, hyper focus, and never settle in my personal or professional life. Yes, these things have brought me wonderful opportunities but it has also caused me to push myself way too hard and push people away.

It’s a superpower because my brain can analyze many things simultaneously and in depth, my pattern recognition is unmatched, and when I focus no one can out perform me… but sometimes it’s also crippling and emotionally draining and frustrating beyond belief that I can’t do basic things successfully or with the ease of neurotypicals.
