Hi Lesedi. thank you for amplifying my story. you do not understand how this has impacted my life and what I went through with this. there is alot to he accounted for here. The same thing happened to me. It was way before COVID when I came up with the Advertising Sanitizing bins idea. The same that you see at supermarkets entrances to wipe your trolleys. I registered a patent for it. You may google it. Approached DOH. It went all the way up to the Minister of Health at the time Dr Motsoaledi. They liked the idea, but it was taking forever to implement for obvious reasons so I decided to approach the private sector. Just to cut the long story short. Some time after sending my proposals to different chain stores, I started seeing these bins popping up at all these stores post COVID. Checkers, Makro Spat etc. I was shocked! I sent a long email to Checkers head office because I had made more engagements with them and had also met their ad agency. I copied all of their snr managers and the agency demanding answers. I got a long email response from their lawyers saying that they didn't copy my idea and that my patent had expired. Which was true. Yes my patent had expired, so they saw that as their loophole and copied my idea. Also why mention that my patent had expired if you did not copy the idea? I tried to fight it, but unfortunately could not afford lawyers at the time, so I just gave up. They then say that South Africans are lazy and we don't want to work, meanwhile they are the ones holding us back. 😏
