The next morning, Miu comes back. Same time. Just like she said she would. Lena notices the moment she walks into the room. Not because she's looking for her. Just because she's become easy to notice. Miu doesn't say much. She places a paper bag on the bedside table. A drink. Then she sits down in the same chair. The same spot. Like it's part of a routine neither of them agreed to. For a while, neither speaks. The monitor fills the silence. Beep. Beep. Beep. Lena stares out the window. Miu reads something on her phone. The whole thing feels strangely normal. Which only makes Lena more uncomfortable. Finally, she breaks.

The whole thing feels strangely normal. Which only makes Lena more uncomfortable. Finally, she breaks. "You really came back." Miu looks up. A small nod. "I said I would." Lena doesn't know why that bothers her. Maybe because she sounds so certain. Like she never considered not coming. Like there was never another option. "You don't have to." Miu's expression doesn't change. "I know." The answer frustrates her immediately. Because it sounds genuine. Not defensive. Not guilty. Just true. Lena exhales sharply. "Then why do you keep doing it?" For the first time, Miu hesitates. Not because she doesn't know the answer. Because she seems to be deciding how much of it Lena is willing to hear. "I want to." Simple. Lena looks away. "That's a terrible reason." A quiet laugh escapes Miu before she can stop it. Not mocking. Just surprised. Lena frowns. "What's funny?" "Nothing." "You're laughing." "I'm sorry." The apology comes so fast that Lena almost feels bad. Almost. The room falls quiet again. Then Lena notices the drink. Still warm. Still untouched. "How did you know what I like?" The question slips out before she means to ask it. Miu glances at the cup. Then back at her. A pause. "You always ordered that." Always. The word lands wrong. Because Lena doesn't remember being that person. Doesn't remember sharing enough time with Miu for words like always to exist. "Stop doing that." Miu blinks. "Doing what?" "Talking like you know me." The second the words leave her mouth, she sees it. Just for a moment. The hurt. Small. Quickly hidden. But there. Because of course it's there. Miu spent years knowing her. And Lena just treated it like a mistake. Still, Lena can't take it back. Because it's true. "I don't know you," Lena says more quietly. "And you don't know me anymore." Silence. The kind that sits between people instead of around them. Miu lowers her gaze. Then nods once. "You're right." Lena wasn't expecting that. No argument. No defense. Just agreement. For some reason, it makes her feel worse. A nurse enters a few minutes later to check on Lena. The interruption is a relief. Until the nurse smiles at Miu. "You finally got some sleep?" Miu gives a small shrug. The nurse laughs. "Good. Because for a while there, you were practically living here." Lena sees it immediately. The way Miu's shoulders tense. Like she wishes the comment hadn't been made. The nurse leaves without noticing. But the damage is done. Lena looks at Miu. "You stayed here?" Miu looks away first. "Sometimes." "Sometimes?" Another pause. Then: "Most nights." The answer settles heavily in the room. Lena doesn't know what to do with it. Because she doesn't remember asking anyone to stay. Doesn't remember needing someone that much. Yet somehow... Miu did. The thought makes her chest feel tight. Not warm. Not comforting. Just complicated. Miu stands a little while later. "I should go." Lena nods immediately. Too quickly. Miu notices. Of course she does. But she doesn't say anything. At the door, she stops. For a second, Lena thinks she's going to say something emotional. Something about memories. About love. About them. Instead, Miu just points toward the drink. "It's going to get cold." Then she leaves. The door closes softly behind her. Lena looks down at the cup. Still warm. Still exactly the way she likes it. And for reasons she doesn't understand... that bothers her more than if Miu had gotten it wrong. #lenamiu #au #gl
