We have the heir of Iran's previous dynasty sitting around and sometimes making appearances, that oddly get way more support from the diaspora of Iranians that Fred the country, than the people in it. There wasn't a total lack of support within the country, but Iran gunned down quite a lot of the people that showed up for it, and it doesn't seem like they can replenish those numbers any time soon, if ever. Would have still been bad regime change meddling, but we get away with doing that pretty often.
