@dr.matthew.parker: A quick clarification about the Open Payments database 👇 Being listed on Open Payments does NOT mean a doctor has done anything wrong. The database exists for transparency, not to create a list of “corrupt doctors.” Pharmaceutical and medical device companies can have completely legitimate relationships with physicians—research, consulting, speaking, education, travel, meals, etc.—and certain payments are required to be publicly reported. So yes, you might look up your doctor and find that a pharmaceutical company paid them $25 for lunch. That does not mean your doctor is corrupt. A doctor can eat a sandwich at lunch without suddenly becoming a pharmaceutical shill. At the same time, there have absolutely been cases where pharmaceutical companies and physicians engaged in inappropriate or illegal arrangements. Those deserve scrutiny, and that's exactly why transparency matters. The point isn't: “If you're on Open Payments, you're doing something wrong.” The point is: “Patients should be able to see these relationships and understand what they actually mean.” Transparency and corruption are not the same thing. #MentalHealth #psychiatry #MentalHealthAwareness #medicine #humor
