@thequidsquid: The rent vs mortgage debate isn't as simple as “renting is throwing money away.” 🏠 Pay £1,285 a month for 25 years and that's £385,500 either way. The big difference is what you potentially have at the end. 🔑 With a mortgage, you could eventually own the property outright and benefit if its value increases. But you've also got interest, maintenance, repairs, insurance and buying costs to consider. 🏙️ Renting doesn't build equity, but you get flexibility, avoid many repair costs and might be able to live somewhere you simply couldn't afford to buy. 💷 Buying also requires a sizeable deposit upfront. A Lifetime ISA can help eligible first-time buyers by adding a 25% government bonus to their savings. 🤔 So there's no universal winner. It depends on your finances, where you want to live and how long you plan to stay there. Which would you choose? #PersonalFinance #financialeducation #rentvsbuy

The only people saying renting is better are landlords who own property that they rent out.

Fun fact is, you still never own your house fully even when it is paid off. Get in any sort of trouble and your incredibly awesome government will take it from you.

You are missing a massive point, retirement. Pay off your mortgage by the time you retire then you are in a much better financial situation.

My mortgage is £300 per month- the equivalent rent would be £1300. Owning is a no brainer.

you understand you will be paying 3 times more for rent in 15 years , while the buyer will pay maybe a little bit more every month and he can sell that property at any time and earn money while paying back the bank

It's never been a debate, ownership is what you want. I rent. why? because I had to move out at 18 and start running my own house on minimum wage. Saving a deposit and paying rent is practically impossible. The current system is designed to help those who are able to be supported financially by parents until they have met the required deposit threshold, anybody that doesn't have that option, will likely remain renting until inheritance or a windfall arrives. It's not a reflection of you as a person, it's a reflection of the circumstances you faced to live day to day.

The least realistic part of the video is that both are paying the same price. Renting has become very expensive, but paying a mortgage costs even more. The housing market is so fucked
