Death Row Inmate Christa Pike Asks Court To Be Executed By Hanging (WATE) — Christa Pike was convicted in 1995 for the murder of Colleen Slemmer. Pike tortured and then beat Slemmer to death with a chunk of asphalt. Now, Tennessee has concluded a hearing that will decide how to execute Pike. Judge Mark Ward has spent the last three days trying to answer that question for the State Supreme Court. Now, the same woman who kept a piece of her murder victim’s skull is asking the court to account for her trauma, which per the state’s own attorneys, is not a point of debate. The Tennessee Supreme Court, who will make the final decision on the timing or method of the execution, appointed Ward as the special master of these proceedings. He will submit a report with his findings regarding four four questions, three of which were in regard to her health conditions. Pike was a victim of child rape when she was in Pre-K, and again when she was 11 and 17. In the closing arguments of this hearing, Pike’s attorney said the murder of Colleen Slemmer occurred quote “almost exactly one year before the crime.” The question is if the court can accommodate Pike’s numerous requests to avoid triggering her PTSD stemming from incidents before she murdered Slemmer, with the state arguing in favor of its current protocol, while Pike’s legal team says it would be inhumane. Pike’s attorneys have also argued that the state should use a different method to sedate her by laying what medical experts call a “central line” rather than using peripheral IV access, the standard method. She is scheduled to be executed on Sept. 30. #news #truecrime #deathpenalty
