@shilohfarm: 3 garden bugs I get asked about ALL the time and how to deal with them. 🦗 Grasshoppers: Keep weeds and tall grass cleaned up around the garden since that’s where they like to hang out. Row covers can protect smaller plants, and if you have chickens, this is one pest they’re more than happy to help with. 🪲 Japanese beetles: The easiest trick is knocking them into a bucket of soapy water early in the morning when they’re slow and sluggish. And skip the beetle traps right next to the garden, they can actually attract more beetles to the area. 🥒 Squash bugs: Check the undersides of squash leaves for those little clusters of bronze-colored eggs and scrape them off before they hatch. For adults, hand-picking or the trusty bucket of soapy water works surprisingly well. I also like to soak a board and leave it overnight. Come back the next morning and get to squishin’ It’s important to remember you’re probably not going to eliminate every pest in the garden, but keeping the population under control can be the difference between sharing a little and having nothing left to harvest. #garden #tips #bug #homestead #shilohfarm
