@wongfupro: Sophia Chang was shaping the culture of hip hop long before she began telling her own story. In this episode of The United States of Asian+America, @Sophia Chang sits down with founder of @Righteous Eats @Jaeki Cho to unpack her journey through hip hop, from managing the Wu-Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest to helping shape the careers and legacies of some of the culture's most influential artists. Together, they explore the Asian+American imprint on hip hop-and how creativity, community, and cultural influence can travel from underground scenes to the world stage. Watch the full episode on YouTube, and don't forget to catch the whole series! #AsianPlusAmerican
I will take it a step further with this: As someone who has been a rock/metal fan for a good portion of my life, if it wasn't for black people, we wouldn't have rock to begin with.

As the great Alton Brown also pointed out: Korean fried chicken doesn't exist without the black American G.I.s that taught Koreans how to fry chicken during the war.

While the culture is imitated globally, the people who created it often don't receive:
* The credit,
* The profit,
- [ ] Or the institutional respect.
That's the tension: Black American culture is loved, but Black Americans are not always valued.

It's funny to me because K-Pop didn't always have that element to it. They recently shifted to appropriating. But J-Pop seemed to embrace it from the jump but never got the international recognition that K-Pop got.

Everyone always says Wu-Tang, but the truth is a lot of us fell in love with Asian culture from watching a movie calledTHE LAST DRAGON come come come come come get up. Let’s go. We’re going to the house. Eddie Murphy took us to Tibet in THE GOLDEN CHILD.

Wu tang is basically a thing because how blacks people took a liking and inspiration from Chinese culture. Which is why you see Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, jet li, lucy liu, and zhang ziyi are so beloved in the black community. We grew up watching their movies and also Goku and dragonball.
