It’s because you didn’t greet😂greeting is a big thing in SA ,you don’t just “excuse me” or tap someone on the shoulder and a expect positive feedback you’re seen as rude and unruly and you’ll definitely get what you’re “asking” for,the same thing you’re thinking about them is the same thing they’re saying under their breath so yeah just search it even here on TT people coming to visit have the same experience until they’re being corrected , trust me greeting and asking how is life is a like a cultural thing no matter where you go in SA it is seen as more of a respectable approach for you to get what you want like asking where the bathroom is etc…
