@gloriaelendu_: Sometimes a marriage crisis can simply look like two people reaching a major life transition without having agreed on what comes next. “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?” Luke 14:28 (NIV) #MarriageAndMoney #FinancialWisdom #MarriageTalk #RetirementPlanning #ChristianLiving
Also hopefully my final thought on this, but I went to look at the original post. There’s a mental/attraction component to this. Some women don’t want to be the breadwinner in their home, and that’s okay. If she married a man that she thought was ambitious and that was part of the attraction, and then overnight he decides to stop working and just lounges around at home watching TV and “writing” for one hour a day because of “stress”, she’s well within her rights to feel annoyed by that and it could even impact the way she feels about him or any attraction she has for him.

I am happy about this your analysis.
she knows who she is dealing with and social media is judging a woman whose home they don't live in

And people are saying she’s ungrateful because he put her through school. When he financed her education, did he tell her he was investing in her as his retirement plan?

I was literally just telling my friend this! These people are in a place where they want different things and they haven’t really sat down to think and talk it through honestly and transparently. They need to have an honest conversation if they’re going to move past this situation in their marriage.

They keep telling women not to marry for only love but also for financial attainment. Then they go ahead and start bashing the one who married for love. That man clearly don’t want to work any more. abroad with constant bills, That means she’s working for 2 people until when she retires her self. What about he goes on Casual work to still support a bit.

This is the first time I disagree strongly with you. The man has built a strong foundation, has investment in-place that brings in passive income. Resting for a while should not be a problem to a partner than actual cares about his health. One month was all it took before she started nagging him. That's crazy.

This is like that one book (forgotten the title)
The man married a little girl, took her abroad, made her go to nursing school and then he stopped working and used her money to build a gold house back home in Nigeria. 😂😭
He ended up killing her when she tried to leave.

She is asking for the timeline because she knows that man, she knows his type of lifestyle.

She said she knows her husband so she is in a better place to understand. The man has planned this for a year or more and she isn't mentally prepared. Also they can speak and come to an agreement

Yeah that guy does not want to work, he wants to be a “free loader”. He thinks he is due this lifestyle cos he paid for her medical school. Especially in this economy filled with uncertainties, who leaves their job. He wants to quit his job and enjoy himself also…no way

he is not be realistic. even if he is burnt out he also needs to deal with this in therapy so he can process the cuase and find alternative. He has also swiftly change timeliness for retirement for both of them and expect no reaction.
if he does not deal with the cause of the burnout even in retirement he wil burnout

People live till 80, 90. He’s just barely 50. She might (rightly) feel they don’t have enough for him to not work and continue to fly business class several times a year for the next 30-40 years. With inflation, etc you have to plan carefully. Retiring at 50 without a proper plan and conversation is crazy if you’re a dual income household. Here in America, even if you pay off your mortgage, you will continue to pay taxes on your home till you literally die. There are healthcare expenses as you age, as well as just random life things that happen. He should tell her the truth - that he wants to retire and they both need to sit down with their financial planner and see what their lives would look like if she’s the only income earner for the next 30-40 years, because it sounds like that’s what he’s plotting.

Thank you oooooooooooo. I also strongly believe that the man has a stash she’s not aware of. She made her stance based on the knowledge she has.

I agree with you. They need to reassess and most likely downsize their lifestyle to make retirement possible.
