I understand that you’ve been introduced to this concept cos u were exposed to Saudis specially. But this very basic? It’s etiquettes instilled within muslims from early cos we have seen our parents do this. Also, smiling at ppl and acknowledging them is part of sunnah so almost every Muslim does this naturally :)

It is a way of expressing admiration without envy and acknowledging that the blessing comes from Allah.
