People have got to ask themselves “What is this video/piece of text trying to achieve?” “What thoughts/feelings does it want me to walk away with?” And then just genuinely assess if that passes your smell test.

Beautifully said. I was literally stuck in discourse earlier about this when I brought up race and the “no war but class war” dog whistles came out and I had to constantly state that race and class aren’t in opposition to each other and both must be addressed to not only build solidarity but also work towards material needs. I’ve also been rereading Audre Lorde and this reminds me of the masters tools will never dismantle the masters house. Particularly where she mentions the diversion of energies and calls it a tragic repetition of patriarchal thought. I gotta reread elite capture next!

This is why school is important. Because you learn. I’m so glad I decided to go back to school. College is totally a scam with debt and all. However learning is invaluable. Understanding is priceless.

Recently Marc Lamont Hill talked about how being misgendering a trans person because they commit a crime is similar to calling a black person the word because they commit a crime. People were upset, but if you look at it from a standpoint of identity based oppression both have faced a history of violence and the real villain is then violence itself.

I feel like other people have noticed this as well but they’ve mistakenly characterize it as a product of being “overly woke”

I used to be “the black woman experiences the worst this…”. I regurgitated takes i agreed with, but was only concentrated to black women alone in a vacuum and it took me a while to understand how we also are contributors as well to many of the systems we claim to hate. And in process, i realized i invalidated black men, queer intersections as a black women, trans women, etc. i had to sit back and process how it wasn’t a good way to go about things thinking my struggles were isolated. (And i thought i ATE too… yikes!)

we have not unpacked our internalized colonialism. we are all conditioned by hierarchy to perpetuate it. baked in it. it is an active effort daily to try not to unconsciously participate.

This. We are all programmed and conditioned from birth. Radios, tvs, internet doesn’t particularly help that. Everyone is running in circles and don’t even realize it.

My filter is to ask, “would this still be true if there was no suffering for said group?” As a native women we often speak and argue from the suffering we experience instead of who we are beyond the suffering. “What is true with and without the suffering?”

Loved this book! We ALL must understand that imperialist, ✋🏻 supremacist, capitalist, patriarchy is so deeply embedded into our psyche that we have to develop a LIFESTYLE around decolonization. Just think about what that means for a minute. Interrogation, deconstruction, and reconstruction has to be an ongoing intentional practice.
