The US treasury can’t do QE, only Fed can do that. This is basically the Treasury taking on a new loan to pay down their old loan.

they can’t buy at the price they want if asia mass sells. if japan or any other large holder of treasuries liquidates for other sovereign debt we’re cooked on 30 yr rates which would make our interest payments even worse
