Kikuyus are different people 🫂. It’s not only about our leaders; we’ve never really depended on leaders to determine our lives. We depend on ourselves, take responsibility for our choices, and hold ourselves accountable. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever met a Kikuyu who expects a politician to come and change their life. today’s leader, tomorrow’s another one. We have our own businesses, families, farms, careers, and things to do. 😂 Politics is just politics; we don’t take it too personally. Our lives don’t stop because a particular leader is no longer in power.

One time in Sep 2020, when producing a documentary series on how the NG-CDF works, I was in Kiambu Town constituency and Jude Njomo was the MP then, part of our crew was Steve from Busia County, he was our driver. We were driving in the town with just the MP and his team in one car and our crew in one car. Steve experienced a culture shock wake we watched, he couldn't hide it. He asked "Do people here know this is the MP's car?" We said yes. "And why are they not bothered? I thought they should be here running after his car!" I still remember how perplexed Steve was

Meanwhile, communities such as Somalis and Kisii have increasingly demonstrated that they can choose a different approach: rather than constantly blaming historical events or political opponents, they can focus on improving their economic and political position within Kenya. Misery loves company. Progress begins when people learn to tune out the negative noise, take responsibility for their future, and focus on creating better opportunities rather than remaining prisoners of the past.
