My therapist cried for the first time ever (with me) when I was telling her how my dog died after 14 years of life together. It was really helpful for my grief because losing him was world ending for me.

I’ve cried in session. It was hard to hold back the tears and had the lump in the throat. I couldn’t sit there and be emotionless while hearing a very traumatic experience. So it’s ok to be human 💗

For me, it was never taught in grad school that it was okay to cry. When I cried the first time in a session hearing a client’s story, I felt like I ruined the relationship and failed because I felt like I always had to keep my feelings in check. Once I cried though, it allowed my client to also cry and let out those feelings she held inside for months following a passing of a close family member. I realized then that I didn’t fail or mess up. I was being a human. Doing a very normal, human thing. ♥️

I actually canceled my sessions today because I didn't have it. We are human and it does happen, we are not robots

I had a therapist cry a bit and it was so validating for me. Like cool, whatever I’m talking about is okay for me to cry about if I see someone else having a similar reaction. If that makes sense. Helped me realize it’s okay to cry and lessen the shame and self-criticism for “being so emotional.”

My therapist got a bit emotional and teary with me once, and I have been working with her for a few years and she has strict boundaries, but that moment was really validating and healing for me, and in that case strengthened my therapeutic relationship with her.

The majority of my clients are young children, the vicarious trauma can be incredibly difficult to carry! I have certainly cried with my teen clients before, but with the young children they often don’t realize how sad what they are going through really is yet, it is their normal. I have to keep my adult feelings out of it and feel them after session. Our job is HARD!

I believe everyone should be able to vent about how hard their job can be to them sometimes.

My therapist tried so hard to fight back I told her “it’s ok you can let it out” she started bawling. The things they did to me in foster care is criminal and I KNOW there are so many out there going through it right now.

I do so much EMDR and trauma work and I noticed I wasn’t going out as much and was thinking about scary things randomly and realized I needed to take time off. It can creep up on you. ❤️

our job is HARD and we can't even talk about our days like people with a 'normal' job can! those feelings have to go somewhere, even if it's in a TT. ❤️to you

Hi! fellow therapist here. I have definitely cried and my hope is it helped validate what the client experienced. You're doing a great job - sending you big hugs. I hope you have something delicious tonight

I made one of my first therapists cry. It was my first time in therapy as an adult and it’s still something I’ll think about from time to time because it was very validating to speak about my childhood and have somebody else acknowledge my pain in that way. I hope your day gets brighter 💕💕💕

I’m a child therapist. Twice I’ve had kids crawl into my lap crying. One lost their mom the previous weekend. The other had just finished their forensic interview. Both broke my heart and I cried (briefly) with both-I’m still a human. I genuinely love all my clients.

I didn’t even get that far. I was a BHCC in community clinics in Chicago providing “therapeutic services” to patients with depression, anxiety, and various comorbidities during COVID and it pushed me to the front door of alcoholism. You are doing GIANT work!!
