Personally if the jobs minimum pay doesn’t start at $30 an hour and a senior level or above position, there’s no reason for references.

I stopped providing references before an offer. A conditional offer can be contingent on satisfactory references, but I’m not asking people in my professional network to repeatedly complete reference checks just for me to possibly get hired.

In the uk a reference is just this person worked here from a date to z date as this role. It’s illegal to add opinions about the candidate. Its absurd to ask for more than that
