@dr.k.sislow: There are many many MANY issues I have with dental insurance, but there are several things that, as a dentist, I think should be required coverage for ALL dental plans. Fluoride treatments, nightguards, Botox, 3 cleanings a year, and emergency coverage. Most of this is for PREVENTION meaning preventing worse, bigger, and more expensive problems down the road. And emergency coverage to be available when unexpected things DO happen. Unfortunately, dental insurance isn’t insurance. It’s a coupon book that you may or may not be able to use. What else do you think insurance should cover? #dentist #dentistry #healthcare #insurance #doctor . . Disclaimer: This is for informational and educational purposes. Should not be regarded as medical advice or replace the advice of your dentist/doctor. . . Hi! I think ANYTHING that dentist deems dentally/medically necessary should be covered. Insurances shouldn’t be allowed to dictate patient care 🫶🏼

Dental insurance is a scam like many others. Dental insurances are more like a discount or coupon but no really an insurance. 😏😏😏

I have tmj and was denied by my insurance for a night guard since I grind my teeth and clench my jaw when I sleep. I was told it was $800 to get the night guard 😳

for those of us that have disorders that cause tooth decay I believe that implants should be covered. because a lot of us are not able to eat

Seems like insurances companies should have the foresight to say “hey, maybe if I pay 600$ for a nightguard right now I won’t have to pay 2000$ for crowns in 2 years”

Insurance NEVER wants to prevent stuff. They just want to pay to fix broken things 🙄🙄🙄

I’m here to just say how impressed I am with depth of your knowledge about whole dentistry especially the administrative aspect of it . I have been in dental field for over 30 years and have never come across a dentist that knows so much in depth about insurance 👏

Great information, especially the tip on nightguards! If an insurance does cover a nightguard it’s sometimes covered 1x per life, which is insane. I think periodic/limited/comp exams shouldn’t share frequency at 2 per calendar/plan year. X-rays should be covered at 100% no matter the plan.

The dentistry industry is a scam. Insurance is largely useless. We need major reforms to make it more like the medical industry to better serve clients and dental professionals I think you are exceptional and reasonable.

FMX & Pano should not share frequency. A Sleep Apnea appliance or TMJ appliance, should be covered.

Are you serious that amerin dental insurance doesn’t cover emergencies?? 😱 But that’s so important?!?

"emergency procedure" and "require a wait period" should never be combined for care 😭 that's actually sickening

I’m an insurance biller for my office. A lot of the time they refuse to pay for a crown, and instead suggest extraction, and then deny the implant 🙃

Don't forget to add posterior composites. Many dental providers avoid amalgam due to environmental concerns when the amalgam needs removed from the tooth. Posterior composites should no longer be considered cosmetic as it is extremely difficult to find a dentist that will place amalgam over resin fillings.

As if there isn't enough of an RDH shortage. 3 cleanings a year is a waste of chair time.
