If you, as a parent, are responsible, you can use an existing credit card and add your child as an authorized user. You don’t even have to give them access to the card if you don’t trust them yet. That will build credit for them automatically. Of course, if you are irresponsible with your credit card (e.g., late on payments), you will hurt your own child’s score in the process. And if you give your child access to this card, and they are irresponsible, they can hurt your score as well.

Please please please do not sell a secured card as a preloaded card. They use the amount, let’s say $500, of YOUR OWN CASH on lock down as collateral so if you don’t pay it, they close the card and take that money and that still hurts your credit.

YES, a credit card is ALWAYS a good idea. They can give you such a leg up in the future. The only people that dont like it are people that spend more than they have and then go into debt

there’s something called a job. I went to college full time and worked full time. No credit-cards and I was on my own with no silver spoon. People just lack work ethic and are full of excuses.
