@derabeautyvibe: There are parts of African parenting that deserve to be celebrated, but there are also things we need to be able to talk about without immediately hiding behind “that’s our culture.” Discipline and disrespect are not the same thing. Providing for a child does not mean their emotions no longer matter. And becoming a parent does not automatically make every decision you make toward your child healthy. Some adults are still carrying things that happened to them as children — harsh words, fear, comparison, humiliation, impossible expectations, emotional neglect, and situations they were never allowed to question. This is a longer video because this conversation cannot always fit into 60 seconds. The goal isn’t to attack African parents. It’s to ask whether some of the things we normalized should actually be passed to another generation. We can appreciate our parents and still decide that certain cycles end with us. #africanparents #growingupafrican #toxicrelationship #parentalabuse #nocontact
