I remember reading in 8th grade (I'm 39) an article about future settlers encountering blue eyed native children in the Roanoke/Manteo area. I remember thinking "oh, that explains that mystery."

Growing up in North Carolina, I remember them teaching it’s about the lost colony in school. I also remember thinking it was pretty damn obvious they went to live with the Croatoans.

Instant follow 👍🏼👍🏼 I have always been fascinated with the Roanoke colony. This year my son and I visited the island and went to the Elizabethan Botanical Gardens. We got to see a live oak that would have been a sapling at that time. Thanks for sharing this 😊

I’m live in NC. Been on both Roanoke and Hatteras. Have heard this theory and believe it. It is also suggested around here that the Lumbee are descendants of the mixed race of Croatoan and English. Only speaking what I’ve heard.
