This is a permitted trail and you can get permits on rec.gov! It is the Hermit Trail. This trail does not have a store at the bottom of the canyon like the Bright Angel Trail and is a different experience (from what I’ve heard) There are many different options for campsites and it’s more of a “choose your own adventure” situation. Wanna be there for 3 nights? 4? Just get a longer permit. We woke up at 4am on the final day to hike out (5,318 ft and about 10 miles) and were able to stay in the shade for most of the trail. We got out in 5 hours 15 minutes but had planned for it to take us 7.5 hours. I cannot imagine trying to do that uphill trail in the dead of summer. #backpackgrandcayon #solofemalevanlife #lifeontheroad #hikingtips
