while I doubt your intentions were anything but wholesome horses, especially ponies are very sensitive to what they eat. These animals can die from either digestive problems since they cannot throw up or the carbs can make them develop laminitis which is a condition affecting their hooves that is also often fatal. Always ask before feeding someone's horses!

I would be furious if this were mine. Don‘t ever do this. Even if some vets allowed you to. You were already on your way to buy carrots so you would have fed tem either way.

Those horses are too round to be starved, the little black cob looks obese. If they were actually starved they’d have ribs etc showing. They’re likely on the bare lot as restricted grazing, people who work at vets should have enough sense to be able to see horses that size aren’t starved

DO NOT FEED HORSES YOY DO NOT KNOW. You can literally kill them! Horses are dramatic creatures with food and anything they don’t like can make their organs twist up and they can die(colic). A lot also have sensitivity to sugars in foods which in the long run can result in the hoof bone going through their hoof (laminitis)
